4 Useful Microsoft Word Features (Still Handy Today)

On this page
Microsoft Word is packed with time-saving tools that many people never discover. Here are four genuinely useful features. They first arrived in Word 2010 and are still in every modern version of Word.
1. Navigation Pane
The Navigation pane works like a live map of your document. You can jump between headings, search for text, and reorder sections by dragging them. Turn it on from the View tab by ticking Navigation Pane under Show.
2. Crop an Image to a Shape
Want a photo in a circle or an arrow? Select the image, open the Picture Format tab, click the arrow under Crop, and choose Crop to Shape.
3. Built-in Photo Editing
You do not need a separate editor for quick fixes. Select an image and, on the Picture Format tab, try Remove Background, Artistic Effects, Corrections, and Color to adjust it right inside Word.
4. Insert a Screenshot
Capture part of your screen without leaving Word. On the Insert tab, click Screenshot, then either pick an open window or choose Screen Clipping to drag a selection.
