How to Find Hidden Messages and Message Requests on Instagram

Instagram does not always show every message you receive. Direct messages from people you do not follow are tucked away as message requests, and some are filtered further into a hidden requests folder. Here is how to find them.

How to Check Message Requests

Step 1: Open Instagram and tap the Messenger or Direct icon in the top-right corner of your feed.

Step 2: Tap Requests at the top of your inbox. This shows messages from accounts you are not connected with.

Step 3: Open a request to read it. You can read a message without the sender knowing. If you tap Accept, the conversation moves to your main inbox; if you tap Delete or Block, it goes away.

How to Find Hidden Requests

Step 1: On the Requests screen, look for Hidden Requests. Instagram filters messages it thinks are spam or offensive into this folder.

Step 2: Tap it to review those messages. You can choose to accept, delete, or block each one.
